Black Cat Pics and taking photos of black cats poses more questions than the average cat pictures. Black cat pics are often washed out and the features of the cat can be glaring. We love taking pictures of our cats. They are unpredictable and impulsive which make great photo opportunities for all who have cats and love to take pictures.
Taking photos of black cats is more difficult for a number of reasons. The shiny dark coat can easily reflect the light of the flash causing bright spots on the photo and the cats often appear with glowing eyes. Opting to not use a flash can result in an overall dark picture with a dark blob in the middle of the picture.
Light or white backgrounds can cause overexposure of the picture. Ambient or diffused lighting doesn’t help much at all when taking black Cat Pics. A well lit area is needed, with plenty of natural light, and if a flash is needed, use an off-camera flash. Try placing a well reflective surface behind the cat to back light with a natural look.
The use of back lighting with a black cat can be very tricky. Too much light and you drown out all of the features in the front of the picture. Too little and you may end up with weird shadows, the cat may not show up well, or your picture could just be too dark overall. The loss of detail in the picture will be noticeable using back lighting if you don’t have enough direct light.
An external flash is by far the best and most useful way to light up black cat pics. Making use of reflective lighting techniques will add further dimension to your photos. This allows for more light being added but shining on what you want lit. These techniques may be tricky to learn but well worth the effort.
Taking pictures of black cats often end up being photos of black blobs with glowing eyes. In order to get the details of the face and even the contour of the cat’s shape, you need to know how to light the scene properly. Of course, getting your cat to cooperate isn’t necessarily a picnic either. But when you get it all right, the cat in just the right pose, the lighting hitting all the right spots, and your cat giving you the look you have come to love, or in some cases dread, your black cat pics will be stunning.
