Funny Cat Pics Ben Huh earned a journalism degree and interned at several newspapers, but he ultimately chose a more practical career path: funny cat pics captions.

Huh, 31, is the big cheese behind Icanhascheezburger.com, the enormously popular blog revealing the inner feelings of felines (“Hoomans taek their fur OFF?”). His company, Pet Holdings Inc. of Seattle, is a burgeoning media empire with 27 other sites and counting about funny Cat Pics.

Those include Failblog.org, featuring pictures of moments and things that are all around unfortunate like the brick facility in San Mateo named “The Spankme Building.” There’s also Graphjam.com, a blog illustrating the frustrations of daily life in graphical form such as the “Thoughts When a Car Alarm Goes Off” pie chart displaying a tiny red sliver for “Someone’s car is being stolen!” while the remainder is dedicated to “That’s annoying, go deactivate it.”

Much like other online success stories, the content and funny cat pics is created by other people and merely aggregated on the sites. Even the placement of pictures and videos is determined by users, based on their votes. The network gets about 10,000 submissions a day and 12 million visitors a month.

Pet Holdings has been profitable since its founding in 2007. With a bare-bones staff of 22, it generates millions in annual revenue through advertising, merchandising, and publishing.

The company’s first book, a collection of so called LOL or laugh out loud funny cat pics with captions, sat on the New York Times Bestseller list for 13 weeks.
